Newcastle United officials aim to make headway with a training facility sponsor as the club seeks to reduce the revenue gap with the Premier League’s big boys. Newcastle’s most recent set of records showed an increase in income from £180 million to £250 million, indicating significant commercial growth since the Mike Ashley era.

However, the Magpies still have a long way to go to match Manchester City, which generated £700 million in income this year. Commercially, the club is experiencing a boom, having recently signed major sponsorship deals with Adidas, Sela, Noon, In-Post, and Fenwick.

The club’s commercial team is working feverishly to raise fresh monies, which will ideally end up on the pitch at St James’ Park. This is why Newcastle went to Australia this month for a post-season tour that is expected to earn more than £3 million.

With a trip to Japan scheduled for July, touring revenue is expected to increase by £7 million, with Far East electronic giants Docomo underwriting a two-game tour and robust gate receipts to follow.

However, Newcastle can leverage even more income from home with a prospective training ground partner sponsor and the stadium naming rights, a more touchy matter given Sports Direct’s car crash agreement a decade ago, which is still undisturbed.

CCO Peter Silverstone said recently: “There is no limit to how many sponsors you can have. There is a limited amount of inventory and assets you’ve got, so you’ve referenced a couple of properties there that we haven’t sold so we’re looking to maximise all the inventory we’ve got.

“The best partners can be the best brands or best value or a combination of both. We’re trying to find the right mix but there are other ways that we can try and continue to make more commercial revenue. We’re looking at all of those as well.”

Newcastle United’s move to hook up with Adidas will bring in around £40m a year while Sela is bringing in £25m a season. With Newcastle not in Europe in the 2024/25 campaign, Newcastle’s revenue machine is only just starting to gather pace.

Since the takeover, United has invested £10 million in their Benton base, with plans to build a training field on hold. Next season, the Magpies will debut a new media suite for news conferences, with the press department moving next door to the Blue Flames.
