Leicester City has appointer Ruud van Nistelrooy the club’s new manager on Friday, just weeks after his departure from Manchester United.
Leicester had sacked Steve Cooper after just 12 Premier League games. The team is currently 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
The Dutchman left United earlier this month after a short spell as interim boss and previously serving as assistant to Erik ten Hag.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy expressed his pride and excitement about joining the club in a statement. He noted that everyone he spoke to about Leicester was enthusiastic.
Leicester made history by winning the Premier League in the 2015/16 season and claimed their first FA Cup five years later. However, they were relegated two years ago but returned to the Premier League right away under coach Enzo Maresca, who is now at Chelsea.
Van Nistelrooy won two out of three matches against Leicester while he served as United’s caretaker manager. He has previous managerial experience from one year at PSV Eindhoven during the 2022/23 season.
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha believes that Van Nistelrooy’s experience and winning mindset will greatly benefit the club and its fans.
Although he will officially start his role on Sunday, he will attend the game on Saturday. Meanwhile, a caretaker team led by Ben Dawson will manage the visit to Brentford.
