Nottingham Forest boss becomes latest Premier League managerial casualty with Nuno Espirito Santo lined up as replacement. After a terrible run of results, Nottingham Forest reportedly fire head coach Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to take over as manager.
According to David Ornstein, the former Tottenham and Wolves boss is best placed to take over from Cooper, who remains a popular figure among fans and players alike. Nottingham Forest has only won one league game in their previous 13 games, leaving them in 17th place in the Premier League. As a result, the club has decided to part ways with their coach of just over two years.
When Cooper joined Forest in September 2021, the team was at the bottom of the Championship. Following his appointment, Forest saw an incredible turnaround and easily qualified for the play-offs. After a thrilling victory over Sheffield United in the semifinals, they advanced to Wembley, where they defeated Huddersfield Town to make their 23-year Premier League comeback.
Last season, Cooper defied the odds once more. Despite having made an absurd number of summer transfers, Forest was at the bottom in November. However, thanks to some outstanding home performances, Cooper inspired his team to easily avoid relegation.
Cooper won the hearts of Forest supporters. The Welshman won the supporters of City Ground not only with his on-field accomplishments but also with his reverence for the team’s heritage. Cooper embraced the stories of many of the team’s European Cup-winning players and used them as motivation for Forest when they made a successful comeback to the big stage.
Unless there’s a huge surprise, Nuno, whose tenure as manager of Tottenham ended in disgrace, will now be looked to by Forest’s upper management. Nuno led Wolves from the Championship to the Europa League in just two seasons, so supporters will be hoping he can repeat that kind of success there.
