Ajax Amsterdam has made to salvage their season by signing John van ‘t Schip as Interim manager until the 30th of June, 2024.

Although the 59-year-old signed a deal until 2025 with the Dutch giants, he will be relinquishing his managerial duties for technical management on 1 July 2024.

John van ‘t Schip, who has been with Ajax previously both as a player, an assistant coach, and a trainer is coming on to replace Maurice Steijn who was sacked earlier this month after a shambolic start to the season.

“I’m very happy that the deal is done and I’m eager to start at the club where it once all began for me,” Van ‘t Schip said.

“The conversations with all the people involved resulted in a great feeling for me. Ajax needs to find the way up again and I’m happy to help in that matter.”

Ajax chief executive Jan van Halst, added: “John is a real Ajax man, who has a lot of national and international experience, on the field and next to it.

“To us, he is the right person to give a positive turn to our performances. First as head coach of the first team, for the long term we see a different technical role for him.

“John has already successfully worked with Michael Valkanis as an assistant trainer, and we think that Michael is a welcome addition to our technical staff.”

Ajax are currently bottom of the Eredivisie after losing 5-2 to PSV in their last game, making it 5 consecutive defeats in the league. The Dutch giants have recorded just a win, 1 draw, and 5 defeats in their last 8 games, having scored 13 goals and conceded 21.
