Following an abysmal performance in their 2022/23 League campaign, Chelsea has announced the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as new manager on a two-year deal.

The Argentine manager who was once in charge of Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint Germain will take over from Frank Lampard who oversaw his final game in charge of the Blues against Newcastle yesterday.

Recall that Chelsea has been on the lookout for a permanent manager after the sack of Graham Potter on April 2, which led to the appointment of Lampard as interim manager.

That move, however wasn’t quite fruitful, as it further compounded the club’s woes, and saw them have their worst season in 30 years.

Chelsea owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, José E. Feliciano, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss spoke optimistically about this new appointment, saying: “The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of.

“We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”

The club has also confirmed that Pochettino’s staff will include Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino.
