Barely two weeks into the summer transfer window, Arsenal has completed the signing of Kai Havertz on a £65m deal from Chelsea, making him the club’s first signing of the window.
Signing a long-term contract with the Gunners, Havertz is set to wear the number 29 jersey ahead of the upcoming season.
Expressing his delight over the move, the 24-year-old said: “It’s super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family. This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things.
“The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.
“The aim is to win trophies and I’m going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club. I’m now looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season.
The German international joined Chelsea back in the summer of 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen, playing 3 full seasons at the Stamford Bridge, where he made history, particularly under Thomas Tuchel.
After an initial period of adaptation, the 24-year-old scored the winning goals in the 2021 Champions League final and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup final both against Manchester City and Palmeiras respectively.
The transfer window is becoming increasingly positive for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, with West Ham said to have accepted their £105million bid for top target Declan Rice, and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber also poised to complete a move to the Emirates in the coming days, barring unforeseen circumstances.
