Arsenal is reportedly in advanced talks to hire Roberto Olabe as their new sporting director. This comes after Edu Gaspar’s unexpected departure last November.
Edu left Arsenal to join Nottingham Forest, despite a significant pay raise being offered to him. Since then, Arsenal has been searching for a suitable replacement.
Recent reports suggest that they may have found their new candidate in Olabe, who is currently the sporting director of Real Sociedad. He has a strong reputation for talent identification and strategic planning.
Under his leadership, Sociedad won the Copa del Rey in 2021, their first major trophy in over 30 years. Additionally, they qualified for the Champions League this season after a decade away.
According to Sky Germany, Olabe’s potential move could impact Arsenal’s transfer plans. He has a good relationship with Alexander Isak, the Newcastle striker who Arsenal may target this summer. Although Isak is under contract until 2028, Olabe’s influence might give Arsenal an edge in pursuing him.
Mikel Arteta’s team has seen significant transformation and success in recent years. With Olabe’s track record in team building and player recruitment, Arsenal could be on the brink of achieving even more in both domestic and European competitions. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s next match is against Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday.
