When considering Manchester United’s opening loss of the year, it is no surprise that Andre Onana was the only player to speak out following the dismal outcome. On Saturday afternoon, United lost 2-1 at the Amex Stadium.
The lost despite believing they had rallied before Alejandro Garnacho’s goal was disallowed and Joao Pedro’s stoppage-time winner sealed the victory. Onana says the Reds were the better team and feels that United was unlucky to leave with no points.
It’s important to remember that Erik ten Hag’s team also had two goals disallowed, although properly. According to ManUtd.com, Onana stated to club media that sets like today’s are inevitable in football and that the team needs to move on.
“We came here to win, unfortunately, we didn’t win. We had a great game, I think we were better than them, we had more chances, we had more possession, we had more control of the game. Unfortunately, they disallowed us a goal, but that’s part of football, that’s part of life, we have to move on.”
Next week is the time to respond when Liverpool come to Old Trafford for the first big game of the season.
Onana adds: “Of course, we’re going to talk with each other, we’re going to sit and analyse the videos and what went wrong, and from there, we will move. Big games are coming, big clubs, so the expectation is here, it will be very high.”
