Sam Merrill, Emoni Bates, and Isaiah Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers came within five points of defeating the Houston Rockets in the NBA 2K24 Summer League championship. Bates made waves with his reliable scoring, Mobley won the MVP award for the Summer League championship, and Merrill kept up his excellent shooting. With team-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds, Nate Hinton stood out for the Houston Rockets.
1. Isaiah Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers
A game-high 28 points were scored by Mobley, who also contributed 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. The big man for the Cavaliers set the tone in the opening round by hitting 11 points in a row to give Cleveland a 14-point advantage into the second frame. Aside from it, he shot 12-for-20 (60%) for the whole of the championship game. In Vegas, the Summer League MVP had a stellar performance, averaging 22.9 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, and 3.8 assists per game on 55% shooting. After a good campaign, Mobley won’t waste any time getting back to his offseason workouts with his younger brother, forward Evan Mobley of the Cavaliers.
2. Nate Hinton of the Houston Rockets
Hinton gave the Rockets a boost and recorded a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) in the game. After scoring 27 points against the Utah Jazz in the semifinals, he maintained his good form. With eight steals over his last two games, the former Houston Cougars standout shown consistency on both sides of the court despite the setback.
3. Sam Merrill of the Cleveland Cavaliers
Merrill turned out to be the competition’s top shooter in 2024 Vegas. Merrill finished with 27 points, four rebounds, a 57% field goal percentage, and a 6-for-12 3-point shooting percentage. The former star of Utah State made 25 3-pointers in total while playing in Vegas, which is the most for a player since 2017. Given the value of 3-point shooting in the NBA, multiple clubs may be interested in the Cavaliers’ guard as they search for a deadeye shooter to bolster their lineup.
4. Emoni Bates, Cleveland Cavaliers
Bates contributed 19 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a 46.2% shooting percentage for the unbeaten Cavaliers. Bates averaged 18.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while playing in Vegas, which helped him earn a spot on the second team of the Summer League. He scored in double figures in every game he participated in there.
