Rasmus Hojlund two-goal for Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday night, according to Paul Scholes, made him think of Ruud van Nistelrooy. Tuesday’s Champions League match between United and Galatasaray ended in a 3-2 loss for United despite Hojlund’s two outstanding goals.

Scholes, the 48-year-old United legend despite expressing his disappointment was enthused by the young Danish striker and compared him to his productive former teammate Van Nistelrooy. United currently sits at the bottom of Group A with zero points after two games.

Scholes while speaking on TNT Sports saud that: “When United lose a game like this, you’re normally really disappointed but I think I see enough in the team tonight which really excited me. Hojlund, especially, took his two goals brilliantly. I absolutely loved his second goal, in particular. He gave the centre-half no chance with a clean pair of heels. He also had another goal disallowed and I thought: ‘Wow, there’s a bit of [Ruud] van Nistelrooy in there.’ He really excited me.”

Hojlund’s diving header off a smooth pass from Marcus Rashford gave United an early lead. After Wilfred Zaha pegged the home-side back, Hojlund restored the lead with a superb solo effort that saw him dribble from the halfway line before shooting the ball over the goalkeeper.

Although Hojlund has now scored three goals in two European games, United has had their poorest season-opening performance since 1986. Erik ten Hag has admitted that Manchester United have no excuses for their poor start to the season but they would try their possible best to become better. The 20-year-old and the Red Devils will play Brentford at home in the Premier League on Saturday.
