Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has expressed confidence in Jose Mourinho’s ability to lead Barcelona, in light of Xavi Hernandez’s imminent departure.
Peseiro, who guided Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) believes Mourinho, currently without a managerial position after his dismissal from Roma, has the qualities to succeed at Barcelona.
According to Peseiro’s remarks to Spanish outlet, Sport, Mourinho who’s also his close friend could thrive if given the opportunity to manage the Spanish club.
Peseiro’s words, “What is the problem? In the end, it is training. I’m sure he would do well because of the demands he places on everything and everyone around him day after day, every minute, to build a team to win. I would like Mourinho to go to coach Barça – he has to be in a team to win everything, because he is a winner.
“I’m Portuguese, a good friend of Mourinho… I like Mou. We were together at university, we met many times to talk about football. He gave me tickets when I was at Barcelona. When [Carlos] Queiroz called me to go to Madrid, the first one I called was Mourinho, not my wife.”
Although Mourinho was assistant manager at Barcelona early in his career, the 61-year-old isn’t a likely candidate to succeed Xavi, as reported by Six Sports.
