Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Ham United on Sunday, the club’s manager Mauricio Pochettino gave updates about the possible debuts of new signings Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Pochettino also revealed his excitement about the signings made so far by the club, whilst congratulating the club’s executives on the job well done.

“We all know Romeo and his quality, his profile. I think he’s a perfect player for this project. We are excited and we are so happy to add him to the squad,” the manager said.

“The club worked really hard on these signings. We have to congratulate the owners and the sporting directors Laurence [Stewart] and Paul [Winstanley], because the job was amazing. To add these types of players like Moises and Romeo, and all the previous signings, is fantastic for the club.

“We need to congratulate the job that they are doing, the owners and sporting directors, because it has been fantastic. These types of players, with the quality that they have, in this squad and this project, I think it’s an amazing thing. It’s a very exciting moment and situation for the club.”

“I think we need to assess them,” he added. “We have one day more to asses them but it has been a very stressful week for Moises and Romeo.

“It’s easy to say they will be involved Sunday in the game but I think the most important thing is to avoid risks and not to rush with them. If they are ready by tomorrow they will be involved. If not we are going to wait a few more days to be fully involved in the squad.”

The Argentine international however confirmed that captain Reece James won’t be available for selection, after he picked up an injury in the side’s PL opener against Liverpool last Sunday.

He said: “It is a sad moment because he’s our captain and he was so excited to be our captain and he was full of energy. We are going to assess him day by day. For sure he wants to be again with the team as soon as possible and for sure he’s going to become stronger than he was, because with all the effort of the club, we are going to help him to become stronger than before.

“It’s a hamstring injury. It’s not about a few days, maybe a few weeks. The good thing is it’s not a big issue, but the most important thing now is to work really hard to try to anticipate problems and to be sure that when he starts to play again he is fully fit and stronger than he was before. That is the most important thing. That is why we are going to assess him day by day and try to make the plan every day.”
