Paris Saint Germain’s boss Luis Enrique believes his football aligns with Barcelona’s philosophy—more than Xavi Hernandez’s— the club’s current head coach.
Enrique who spent eleven years at Barça (eight as a player and three as a coach) made this claim ahead of PSG vs Barcelona Champions League quarter-final tie.
Asked who represents the club’s possession-based football more, the Spaniard retorted, “Me, without any doubt. Look at the data, in possession of the ball, in scoring chances, in high pressing… Look at the titles, the trophies. It’s not an opinion, it’s data. Without any doubt, me! Others may have a different opinion.
“Firstly, I’m sorry I have to say that I don’t know Xavi at all as a coach. I know about him as a player, he was my teammate. I know about him as a footballer, but not as a coach,” the PSG head coach continued. “I know the club very well. I know Barcelona and their players. But I don’t know if that could be an advantage, maybe it could be the opposite.
“It’s an important team for me on an emotional level because of my experiences there but we feel ready to play them and I’m going to give everything I can for this club.”
