Rafael Nadal is set to make a return to Tennis- almost a year after being sidelined with a hip injury during the Australian Open last January.

The sudden announcement came two weeks after the former World No.1 confirmed that he would be unable to return to active service following months of uncertainty.

The 37-year-old Spaniard and 22-time grand slam champion is set to make a comeback starting with the ATP tour at the Brisbane International tennis tournament ATP 250 event, which will begin in 31st December to prepare ahead of the 2024 Australian Open in January.

Rafael Nadal who made his last appearance on the court since the 2023 Australian Open in January, made the official announcement of his return after months of speculations through his social media channels on Friday afternoon.

The Spaniard shared an emotional video charting his injury journey before confirming his return.

“After a year away from competition, it’s time to come back. It will be in Brisbane the first week of January. I’ll see you there,” the 22-time Grand Slam champion said.

Nadal is expected to use the warm-up event to test his level in competitive matches before making a final decision on competing in the Australian Open.

Despite being given a waiver into Brisbane and in Melbourne, the 37-year-old Nadal would still have a lot of catch-up as he’s currently No.663 in the world rankings
