Eighteen years after departing Sevilla for Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos has returned to the club on a one-year deal until June 2024, with an option for a further season.
The Real Madrid legend who departed Sevilla aged 19 back in 2005 now returns as a 37-year-old, turning down mouthwatering offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Fabrizio Romano confirms that his €1m+ net salary at Sevilla is almost 15 times less than what the Spaniard would’ve earned had he opted for the Saudi League
Relishing his return back home, Ramos said: “Today is a very special and exciting day for me. I’m finally back home and I’m looking forward to pulling the Sevilla shirt on again and playing for the badge again. It’s been 18 years since I left and I think I’ve made mistakes.
“I want to take this opportunity to apologise for them in person and to say sorry to any Sevilla fan who has been offended by things I might have done or gestures I might have made at any point. I think we are all in the same boat and we are all part of the same family.
“I am the same as any other player, I’m here to do my bit and row in the same direction as everyone else. I can’t wait to see all of you again.
“Coming back wasn’t just something I owed to myself but also to my family, to my grandfather, who made me become a Sevilla fan when I was young, to my father.
“It didn’t make sense to go anywhere else rather than coming home. I hope to see you soon, I’m here to give my all and try to achieve our goals for the season.”
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Ramos is expected to play against Real Madrid on the 23rd of October.
