Manchester United has reportedly begun discussions with Barcelona about sending Marcus Rashford to the Nou Camp, as he wishes to play in La Liga.

The Red Devils are open to a high-profile swap that could benefit everyone involved. Rashford made headlines this week after being left out of Manchester United’s squad for their match against Manchester City, which they won 2-1.

Gary Neville praised Ruben Amorim for his decisive stance, while Roy Keane suggested that his time at Old Trafford might be over. Rashford has expressed a desire to leave United and start a new chapter after an intense interview with Henry Winter.

However, any transfer is complicated by his substantial wages. He earns £325,000 a week, making him the second-highest earner at the club, and has a contract running until 2028, totaling around £60 million in wages.

Reports from Spain indicate that Barcelona and Manchester United are negotiating a possible swap involving Rashford and Frenkie de Jong before the January transfer window.

De Jong has struggled for game time this season, starting only two games under new coach Hansi Flick. Described by El Nacional as a ‘hot potato’ due to his high salary and limited playtime, he is reportedly of significant interest to United.

Ruben Amorim believes De Jong could positively impact United’s midfield. Consequently, Rashford  wants to leave and has been presented as a bargaining chip to Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.

Speculation about Rashford’s future intensified after his recent announcement. Journalist Ben Jacobs noted that while he isn’t being forced out, the club is open to selling him. A move to PSG is currently not in the works, despite their long-standing interest.

Rashford reportedly prefers a La Liga move and might turn down offers from Premier League teams, with four English clubs watching his situation closely.

While Barcelona remains interested, Atlético Madrid has also connected with him, aiming primarily for a swap deal. Meanwhile, Amorim’s approach has received positive feedback, with the BBC’s Simon Stone stating that he will soon determine whether his claims about keeping Rashford are genuine.

Following his interview, Amorim expressed his emotions and offered Rashford guidance on what steps to take. Stone remarked, “If Manchester United offered guidance on how not to create even more turmoil around an already delicate situation, Ruben Amorim has followed it.”

Amorim acknowledged the need for big talents and emphasized that Rashford and others would be evaluated based on training performances. He mentioned that underperformance could lead to players being left out of upcoming matches.

Rio Ferdinand shared his thoughts, suggesting that there might be more behind Rashford’s desire to leave. He commented on his past impact, saying, “You have to remember that when this kid came onto the scene, he was an absolute breath of fresh air. That’s been the biggest killer for me, that his body language has been almost depressive, a recluse-like body language.”
