Real Madrid has qualified for the quarterfinal of the Copa del Rey after defeating Celta Vigo in extra time.
Madrid won 5-2 to advance in a hard-fought match, despite surrendering a 2-goal lead a few minutes to the end of regular time.
Meanwhile, a goal from Fede Valverde and Endrick’s brace helped Los Blancos enter Copa del Rey Quarterfinals.
Earlier, Madrid had taken a 2-0 lead following a great goal from Mbappe and another from Vini Jr. However, Celta equalised in the final minutes through Bamba and Marcos Alonso.
The Spanish champions took the lead in the 37th minute after a great play by Mbappe. The Frenchman picked up a pass from Ceballos in his half, drove into the area with a spectacular run past his markers before sending a left-footed shot to make it 1-0.
They maintained the lead in the first half and quickly made it two few minutes after the restart of the game.
Mbappe played a good pass behind the defense to Brahim Diaz, who sent it Vinicius’ way for the second goal. Having received the pass, the Brazilian shot with his right foot into the back of the net.
Arda Guler was thought to have increased the lead when Vini Jr. took advantage of a pass, but the Brazilian disallowed the goal for offside.
The visitors fought back to stun Madrid into extra time with the game just a few minutes away from closure.
Bamba cut the deficit in the 83rd minute to give the visitors hope. He then caused a penalty in added time that Marcos Alonso converted, sending the match into extra time.
The first half of the extra time ended in a stalemate with only a chance for Madrid at the final minute. Rudiger hit the post after Guler found the German from a corner kick.
However, Madrid went all out in the second half of extra time, scoring three more goals to settle the contest.
In the 107th minute, Endrick sent a left-footed shot into the back of the net to restore the lead.
Shortly after, Valverde fired a tremendous rocket from outside the area into the top corner to make it 4-2.
Endrick crowned the victory with his first brace for Madrid. The Brazilian took advantage of a loose ball in the six-yard box and finished with a beautiful backheel.
Having progressed to the quarters, Real Madrid will know their next opponents in a few days.
