Real Madrid have claimed that Vinicius Junior was provoked by racial abuse, leading to his reaction against Valencia.

Vinicius was sent off for slapping Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the face.

The Brazilian was then handed a two-game ban by the Competition Committee for his red card.

Los Blancos have appealed his suspension, citing discrimination as a mitigating factor.

They claimed that incomplete evidence were not shown, as Dimitrievski’s provocation was not shown to the referee. It was however denied by the Competition Committee.

Madrid’s second mitigating factor is alleged racial abuse. The Spanish giants claimed that Vinicius was abused in the lead up to the red card.

This defence has also been rejected by the Competition Committee too, stating that it in no way justifies the action of the player sent off.

Meanwhile, La Liga have opened an investigation into the racial abuse though, as they seek action.
