Following their victory over Osasuna, Real Madrid has lodged a formal complaint against the match referee Juan Martínez regarding the omission of reported racist remarks aimed at Vinicius Jr.
Vinicius grabbed two goals as Madrid widened their La Liga lead to 10 points, after a dominant 4-2 win over Osasuna at the El Sadar Stadium on Saturday.
The Brazilian was allegedly abused racially during the match, only for referee Juan Martínez to omit the anomaly in his match report.
Reacting to the referee’s action, Real said in a statement, “Our club has filed a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) against the referee of the match Juan Martinez Munuera.
“The referee voluntarily and deliberately omitted the insults and vexatious shouts directed repeatedly towards our player Vinicius Jr, despite these being insistently pointed out by our players at the very moment when they were taking place.”
The club also expands its existing complaint, addressing alleged racial abuse by fans from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona towards Vinicius.
“In light of these unacceptable events at El Sadar, Real Madrid has added to the complaint filed before the General State Prosecutor on Friday the 15th of March regarding hate and discrimination offenses pertaining to the racist and hateful abuse aimed at our player Vinicius Junior in the areas surrounding the Montjuic Olympic Stadium and the Metropolitano Stadium, calling for the perpetrators to be identified.
“Real Madrid once again condemns these violent attacks of racism, discrimination and hate and demands that measures finally be taken in order to eradicate the violence to which our player Vinicius Junior has been subjected.”
