Manchester United bounced back from their UCL loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday to iron out a scrappy 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor this evening.

United who were without a handful of first-team players lined up a first eleven that had 20-year-old Hannibal Mejbri and 35-year-old Jonny Evans who got his first United start for the first time since 2015.

Hannibal who was handed his second PL start was exciting in the opening minutes of the game, playing on Marcus Rashford who couldn’t direct his effort past the side netting.

Although Vincent Kompany’s side dominated possession, United looked the most potent side in front of goal, and it came as no surprise when Evans headed home a corner, although VAR cancelled the goal due to Rasmus Hojlund’s offside position.

About 20 minutes later, Evans turned provider, as he sent a fantastic ball to Bruno Fernandes who executed perfectly — directing a sublime volley into the net to send his side 1-0 up into the break.

The second half was no different in terms of tempo, as Burnley did control the possession, but lacked composure to execute chances created. Erik Ten Hag’s men on the other hand came close on a couple of occasions to double their lead, but none of their efforts countered the game from ending 1-0 up.

Although scrappy, United will be content with grabbing a clean sheet for the first time since the opening weekend, and also a win to end a run of three consecutive defeats across all competitions, while Burnley were condemned to a fourth consecutive home defeat for the first time since 2020/21 season.
