Bayer Leverkusen played a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich as the reigning champions stood their ground against the Bavarians.
Bayern tried to take the lead but were unlucky. Harry Kane’s floated cross found Serge Gnabry but the winger first hit the post twice.
Vincent Kompany’s side pressed for the lead and came close again to making it 2-1. However, Lukas Hradecky produced a fine save to deny Michael Olise on the hour mark.
Joshua Kimmich, Kim Min-Jae and Konrad Laimer also threatened the Bayer 04 goal as the second half progressed. Still, they could not get the winner and ultimately had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The Bavarians were fired up to take revenge on Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s boys thrashed them 3-0 in their last meeting in February on their way to the Bundesliga title.
However, despite dominating the game from start to finish, the Bavarians were unable to make it count. The champions were satisfied with sitting back and threatening on the counter-attack, while Bayern enjoyed the possession..
The result means Bayern remain top of the table, two points clear of RB Leipzig, while Leverkusen drop to third, three points adrift of the leaders.
