Chelsea’s vice captain Ben Chilwell is expected to be sidelined for months rather than a few weeks due to a hamstring injury. According to the club, he expected to be fit until 2024.
The defender picked up the injury during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion last week, and even Mauricio Pochettino admitted “it doesn’t look good” prior to confirmation from further tests.
Although, diverse sources claim the 26-year-old will be out for up to eight weeks, his history with hamstring injuries might delay his return to action, depending on how the initial steps of his rehabilitation turn out.
“Can’t catch a break. Believe me, I am more frustrated than you guys,” Chilwell wrote on his Instagram story a few minutes ago.
“All I can do now is help the team as best as I can from the sidelines until I can get back to giving everything for the club on the pitch again. Ups and downs but that’s life. Just focused on getting this club back where it deserves to be. Thank you as always for the love, Chelsea fans,” he added.
With the prolonged absence of Chilwell, that means Chelsea are currently without three of their top-rated defender namely, Captain Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah who are currently sidelined.
Christopher Nkunku, Bendoit Badiashile and Carney Chukwuemeka are also unavailability, although all are expected to return before Chilwell, barring any information circumstances.
