Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo has given a definitive response to rumours surrounding his future at Barcelona, with a confirmation that negotiations over his new deal are going well.
Araújo has been in the news over the past hours for the role he played in Barcelona’s elimination in the UEFA Champions League against Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old has, however, evidently moved on from the disappointment, and is optimistic about renewing his commitment with the Catalan giants ahead of his contract expiration in 2026.
“The truth is that it is going well. The club has started talks with my agents. We are thinking about these games and what remains of the season. And when the season is over, they will sit down and talk,” Araújo told Diario AS.
“There is always talk about the future and proposals. Every year it will be like this, but I am happy in Barcelona, my family is happy. When I go out I give everything and I want Barca to be the Barca of old. And until the end, I will always fight to the death for this shirt.
Araújo joined Barça B on a five-year contract from Uruguayan side Montevideo on 29 August 2018. He joined the club’s first team in the 2020/21 season.
