Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, is being pursued by Barcelona, while Liverpool is also interested in hiring him. There is increasing competition to bring in Amorim. Reports claim that Barcelona is trying to sign the 39-year-old off the market before other big teams can make a move, since the Sporting boss is perceived to be the perfect replacement for Xavi.
Amorim seems to be the Reds’ backup plan, with Alonso at the top of their priority list following Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he would be leaving at the end of the current campaign. However, Liverpool has been forced to go elsewhere, and Amorim is one of their top targets, since the Bayer Leverkusen manager is expected to remain in Germany for at least another year.
In a press conference, the Sporting manager appeared unbothered about his future when quizzed on Liverpool’s interest: “I’m focused on Sporting. I’m very proud to be Sporting’s coach. We’re all focused on winning titles, but in the end, we’ll soon see what happens… I have a contract with Sporting, I’m very happy here. The focus is now on beating Benfica in the cup.”
The summer looks difficult for the Blaugrana. Though they are reportedly convincing Xavi to stay, he hasn’t showed much enthusiasm in changing his mind. On April 10, they play PSG in a highly anticipated Champions League match.
