Liverpool’s Arne Slot praised Tottenham’s manager Ange Postecoglou for making Spurs “a joy to watch.” He noted that Postecoglou has helped the team regain its long-lost identity.
Despite this positive change, Postecoglou has had a challenging season with inconsistent results. Before Tottenham’s Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Manchester United, they had only two wins in their previous nine matches.
Slot admires Postecoglou’s commitment to his football philosophy, even when results aren’t going their way. He said, “I really have to give them credit because if I look at Tottenham, and I do come from Holland but I did watch a lot of Match of the Day. I think about David Ginola, Paul Gascoigne, Glenn Hoddle, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale. They’ve always been a certain brand and identity for me, and Postecoglou gives them that identity back completely.”
Slot adds that watching Tottenham is always enjoyable, and despite some bad results, they have had notable victories. While Slot clearly respects Postecoglou’s tactics, he humorously emphasized that he doesn’t want Tottenham’s success to interfere with Liverpool’s chances in the Carabao Cup.
“It’s great work Ange is doing over there,” he mentioned, wishing success for Postecoglou but not in the League Cup. He is a fan of Postecoglou’s style in the Europa League, pointing out, “For me, his brand of football is so much more important.” He believes that if Postecoglou can combine his attractive football with winning trophies, it would benefit football as a whole.
Tottenham is set to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in January. Before that match, Postecoglou’s team will host the Premier League leaders, Liverpool, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
