Phillipe Clement, Rangers head coach has praised the decisiveness of Super Eagles’ Cyriel Dessers in his side’s narrow 2-1 victory over St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium on Sunday.
After failing to win any of their last three league matches, James Bolton’s own goal put Rangers ahead in the 32nd minute at the, before the hosts equalised through Mikael Mandron five minutes later.
It appeared as though the Gers title hunt will be dealt a massive blow, as a draw this afternoon will see them fall six points behind league leaders Celtic. However, Dessers scored a 74th-minute header to seal the maximum points and take his season’s tally to 20 goals across all competitions.
“Cyriel keeps digging in and keeps fighting for the team,” head coach Clement commended the striker post-match.
“He works really hard and then the moments come, that’s what we tell him all the time and that’s what he’s proving now in these last couple of months when he is scoring a lot of goals and when he becomes more and more important for the club.”
Dessers’ compatriot Leon Balogun, also played all through the 90 minutes at the SMISA Stadium. The duo’s pivotal performances helped propel the Ibrox side to the Scottish Cup final last weekend.
