After losing 3-2 to West Ham United in their opening game of the season, Tottenham Hotspur bounced back to defeat Manchester United 2-0 at the Spurs Stadium this evening.

Coming from a narrow 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend, the Red Devils started this encounter on the brighter side, and ought to have taken the lead when captain Bruno Fernandes sent a sumptuous cross to an unmarked Marcus Rashford, but the England international powdered his header over the bar.

As if not enough, United squandered another chance at goal a few minutes later, when Luke Shaw set up Fernandes, but the 28-year-old’s header was sent wide off target. Just a few seconds to the halftime break, Spurs almost punished Ten Hag’s men for the missed chances, after Pedro Porro who was on the edge of the box sent a volley at goal, but the effort unfortunately crashed off the crossbar.

However, United’s relief didn’t last long, as Spurs took the lead about 4 minutes into the second half via Pape Matar Sarr who calmly finished off Dejan Kulusevski’s cross to grab his first goal for the side.

The Red Devils gave a quick response, but their chance at goal bounced off the woodwork via Antony’s effort, before the home side sealed the win 83rd minute via a Lisandro Martinez own goal.
