Iga Swiatek extended her outstanding record against Marta Kostyuk to reach a second consecutive quarterfinals at the Cincinnati Open in America on Friday.

The 23-year-old top seeded player advanced on centre court after a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the No.15 seed in 70 minutes to reach her sixth WTA 1000 quarterfinal this year.

Swiatek had defeated the Ukrainian in straight sets in both of their previous pro meetings, at Roland Garros 2021 and in the Indian Wells semifinals this March — as well as in a junior encounter in 2017.

With the victory, Swiatek has now entered successive quarter finals having reached the semifinals last year. It is her ninth quarterfinal of 2024 so far, and her season record now stands at 54-6.

Swiatek will next face Italian Jasmine Paolini or Mirra Andreeva tomorrow for a spot in the last four.

Since Iga Swiatek’s debut on Tour in 2019, only two players have won 14+ consecutive WTA-1000 main draw matches: Iga Swiatek in 2022 (23, Doha-Toronto) and Iga Swiatek in 2024 (14, current streak).

Only Agnieszka Radwanska (14, between 2012 and 2013) has made more WTA-1000 quarter-finals in consecutive seasons than Iga Swiatek in 2023-2024 (13) since the format’s introduction in 2009.

In the last 10 years, only Iga Swiatek in 2023 (seven) has made more WTA-1000 quarter-finals than Iga Swiatek in 2024 (six) in an entire single season.
