Top seed at the Poland Open, Iga Swiatek continued her march towards the trophy by winning the quarter-finals matchup with Linda Noskova.

This match was supposed to be played on Friday, but it was pushed back to Saturday, which means that we’ll see Swiatek a bit later today as well. It’s an unfortunate development, but Swiatek did well to keep the match as short as possible, which is easy when you’re much better than your opponent.

The first set was almost like a practice one that lasted only 33 minutes and saw the number one seed win 6-1. Noskova couldn’t do much even though she’s a fairly solid player, but the power and precision of Swiatek was just too much.

Noskova plays her best tennis on clay, ditto for Swiatek however, the Polish player is the far superior player on hard courts, which is the surface on which they played here. Iga has been very motivated before this event because winning a WTA trophy on native soil is a longtime dream of hers.

She failed to get it done last year but hopes to get it done this year and so far it’s been going well. She admitted to feeling plenty of stress in her first match which just shows how deeply she cares about doing well at the event.

The second set opened with the Polish player fumbling things a little bit as she got broken early for the 0-2 deficit but she turned it around rather quickly. The 0-2 deficit turned to a 2-2 tie with Swiatek slowly waiting for a chance to break once more.

She got it at 4-4 when she broke for the 5-4 lead, after which she closed it out. The final score was 6-1 6-4 for Swiatek, who will face either Yanina Wickmayer or Heather Watson in the semi-final later today.
