It’s a piece of bad news for Nigeria and Nottingham Forest, as striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been confirmed to spend the next few months on the sidelines due to injury.
This revelation was made by Forest manager Steeve Copper during his press conference earlier on, where he also said Awoniyi has undergone surgery to remedy the groin injury complication he had.
Apparently, the Nigerian international has been battling with the groin injury since October, before it got aggravated during international duties with the Super Eagles last week.
Taiwo Awoniyi has LEFT the Super Eagles camp & travel back to England after he felt pain in his groin.
This is after a discussion between the team's doctor & club's doctor.

“It’s bad news on Taiwo, he’s had to have surgery and he is going to be out for months,” Cooper said.
He added: “We’ll support him and try to get him back as quick and as fit as he can be, but it’s a really unfortunate situation and a blow for him.
“He’s become an important player for us with the goals he’s scored and the goals he will score for us, but he’s such a good guy and a good professional who is desperate to do well, so to get an injury like this is harsh on him.
“We’ve got to support him through the process of coming back stronger. He’s done that once before here and I’m sure he will give everything again like he did last time.
“You think about how well he did when he returned last season, I’m sure that’s given him a good reference point to come back to.
“We’ll definitely see him again this season, but it’s groin surgery so it will take a little while.”
Awoniyi’s injury will be a huge miss for Forest, who’ll be missing the services of their proven goalscorer—one who was integral to the side staying afloat in the English Premier League last season.
The Super Eagles on the other hand will also won’t be deploying the services of the 26-year-old, come January 13 2024, when the 2023 AFCON begins in Ivory Coast.
