In light of Marcus Rashford’s slow start to the season, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag says everyone at the club believes the forward will get back on track in no time, provided he keeps moving in the right direction.
Rashford who hit about 30 goals in all competitions last season has only found the net once in this campaign, despite being a regular face in Ten Hag’s lineup.
The English international isn’t just on a goal drought, there has also been a heavy question mark on his decision-making in the opposition’s boxes that has led to a handful of backlashes from pundits and fans of the game alike.
Despite Rashford’s form, Ten Hag threw his full weight behind him in his press conference today, saying: “Of course, everyone knows the qualities of him, but also the opposition knows the qualities [of him]. But if Rashy is doing the things right and the team is doing the things right, we will put him in the right places and then it is up to him.
“We have seen in the last [few] weeks that he is coming in the good positions, now he is struggling, but this will pass because everyone knows his qualities.
“Everyone at Man United supports him and the whole team is supportive to him, believes in him. So I am sure, with that confidence and belief, that the team is behind him. This will change and it will pass.”
The Dutchman equally opined that the 25-year-old needs just a goal to get his groove back and begin another goal-scoring form. “That is always so. Strikers, when they don’t score for a moment, they need that one goal, then they step over [it],” Ten Hag said.
“It will come and he is so experienced, he knows that as well. When he is doing the right things and the team is doing the right things, that momentum will come and he will be on fire.”
Come Saturday, Marcus Rashford will be looking to find the back of the net when Manchester United host Brentford at Old Trafford, before heading for the international break.
