San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan is undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left thumb he suffered during Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The injury occurred when Sochan ran into a screen near the Clippers’ bench late in the second quarter, causing a fracture in the proximal phalanx of his left thumb.
Sochan, who’s averaging career highs of 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds this season, exited the game with 3:31 remaining in the first half and didn’t return. The Spurs led by 26 points in the first quarter with Sochan on the court but ultimately lost 113-104 to the Clippers.
The Spurs haven’t announced a timeline for Sochan’s return, but they’ll provide an update after the surgery. This is a significant blow to the team, as Sochan has been a key player this season. However, rookie Stephon Castle is expected to see more playing time in Sochan’s absence.
