23 players have been unveiled by Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, and Rasheedat Ajibade are among the athletes on the list that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) unveiled as the talents who would represent Nigeria at the World Cup scheduled to start this month.
The Super Falcons landed in the group of death; Olympic queens Canada, co-hosts Australia and Republic of Ireland await Nigeria. However world football governing body has hinted strikers Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and few other Falcons to shine ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand .
Asisat Oshoala
“Their poster girl believes they can escape the pool, win a knockout-phase game for the first time ever, and even go on to lift the trophy at Stadium Australia. Asisat Oshoala is not the only intoxicating talent at Randy Waldrum’s disposal,” FIFA wrote.
Oshoala is often regarded as Africa’s female GOAT. She had said:”who says Nigeria can’t win it?”
Being the five-time record CAF African Women’s Footballer of the Year, strong, skillful, and swift to score, Oshoala has an incredible stay at Barcelona, helping them win two UEFA Women’s Champions Leagues. Nigeria will first attempt to qualify from an extremely tough group, before striving to win a knockout-phase game at the Women’s World Cup for the first time. As Waldrum puts it, however, “When you have Oshoala, you have a chance against any team.”
Ajibade Rasheedat
Regarding Ajibade, FIFA said: “Ajibade champions herself as ‘The Girl With The Blue Hair’, but Ajibade also stands out with her dazzling feet.”
“The Atletico Madrid playmaker, indeed, won the maiden edition of the Nigerian Freestyle Championship and boasts a seldom capacity to pirouette her way out of impossible situations. One of the most complete players in Africa, Ajibade also wins tackles and makes interceptions.” She is also beleived to shine in the coming World Cup.
Onome Ebi
Onome Ebi, who will play in the 2023 Women’s World Cup at the age of 40, is a player on the list. Ebi has been a part of the team since her first game with the Falcons in 2003. The defender took part in the world competitions in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019 respectively. She is described as fundamental to the Super Falcons.
“A rock at the back and an immeasurable influence on those around her, she has also developed into an attacking threat from set-pieces.” According to FIFA
Uchenna Kanu
Another player considered to shine by FIFA is striker Uchenna Kanu :“Kanu has a penchant for coming up with crucial goals, and a switch to Racing Louisville for the NWSL 2023 has helped the Abia native polish her game.”
