Brennan Johnson scored his fifth goal in five matches, helping Tottenham Hotspur secure a tense 2-1 victory over Ferencvaros in Hungary.

This win maintained their unbeaten run in the Europa League. Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for Spurs in the first half. But Johnson’s late strike proved crucial after Barnabas Varga pulled one back for the hosts in stoppage time.

Despite fielding four teenagers in a heavily rotated lineup, Tottenham struggled early on as Ferencvaros applied pressure and had a goal from Varga disallowed for offside. Sarr capitalized on a defensive error to give Spurs the lead in the 23rd minute.

Guglielmo Vicario made a key save to deny Matheus Saldanha after halftime. While Timo Werner and 19-year-old debutant Will Lankshear came close to adding to Spurs’ lead. Johnson eventually sealed the win with a low shot into the corner four minutes from the end, extending his scoring streak.

Tottenham secured a second goal late in the game when Johnson slotted a low shot into the corner, marking his fifth goal in as many games. Varga’s impressive volley at the near post added tension to the closing moments. However Spurs held on to secure their second consecutive European win.

Tottenham will face Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday. After a slow start to the season, including a home loss to Arsenal in September, Ange Postecoglou’s team has bounced back with five straight wins across all competitions.

Postecoglou took a gamble by fielding a mix of younglings for this challenging away match, with 17-year-old Mikey Moore standing out as one of the top performers.

While some pundits on considered it a risky lineup, the decision paid off. It kind of ensured key players like Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, Micky van de Ven, and James Maddison remain fresh for their upcoming Premier League matches.
