Billy Sharp, a former striker for Sheffield United, has agreed to a one-year contract with MLS team LA Galaxy. After eight years at Bramall Lane, Sharp left the Blades this summer. He will join Greg Vanney’s team for the remaining of the 2023–24 campaign.
In 45 appearances for the South Yorkshire-based team last season, he scored three goals, helping them earn promotion back to the Premier League. Fans who pay close attention will recall that the 37-year-old and the Red Dragons had quite the run-in following their FA Cup fourth-round replay encounter.
After his team’s triumph, Sharp had said that he didn’t like the sentiment behind Wrexham’s celebrations. He says: “I think they’ve been disrespectful with a few things before the game, thinking they were already through. I’m glad we’ve beaten them.”
LA Galaxy Head Coach and Sporting Director Greg Vanney said: “Billy is an accomplished striker who brings experience, leadership and proven goal-scoring pedigree. We are pleased to add a player of Billy’s caliber to the team for the stretch run of the season.”
Galaxy are prepared to play Real Salt Lake on Monday at Dignity Health Sports Park. They presently sit in the 13th position in the Western Conference.
