On Saturday, Aston Villa announced that they have reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans, as the Belgian international midfielder, joins the furray of ongoing departure of players from Leicester City following their relegation.
Villa stated that the 26-year-old will officially join their team on July 1, marking the end of his four-year tenure at Leicester, who will be competing in the Championship next season.
The club’s official statement reads: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans.”
“The Belgian international will officially become a Villan on July 1 after his contract with Leicester City has expired.”
“Tielemans has played at the highest level throughout his career, with Anderlecht and Monaco among his former clubs, and he has most recently played in the Premier League at Leicester City, where his goal helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.”
“A regular for his country on the international stage, the 26-year-old has represented Belgium at World Cup tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and at UEFA Euro 2020.”
During his time with the Foxes, Tielemans notched up a noteworthy record of 195 appearances and 28 goals, while also scoring the lone goal that earned the side the 2021 FA Cup trophy against Chelsea.
Additionally, he’s part of the Belgium golden team that made it to the finals of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup, coupled with the Euro 2022.
