Following Bayern Munich’s abrupt break from league action last weekend, the club’s gaffer Thomas Tuchel is anticipating a positive display from his side when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Bayern were supposed to host Union Berlin last Saturday in the Bundesliga, but an unexpected heavy snowfall in Munich led to the indefinite postponement of the match, giving the German giants enough recuperation and training time for their busy schedule.

“It was very unusual to have such a long time during a period in which you usually have a lot of travelling,” Tuchel said in his pre-match conference today.

He added: “We wanted to take it up a notch against Union, we were ready. The challenge was to maintain that suspense. We want to take the next step tomorrow and absolutely play to win. We’ve trained intensively and aggressively. It’s about showing that on the pitch tomorrow.”

The ex-Chelsea manager further disclosed that his players had a good week of training, and the camp’s spirit is ahead of their return to competitive action.

We had a few concerns for the away game in Cologne, but we looked fresh there. Then we looked tired against Copenhagen.

“Tiredness often creeps in during the time off. The approach this week was very direct, we focused on winning and competing. We’ve had a very good week of training, the mood has been good. We need the same tomorrow in Frankfurt. It’s a very emotional atmosphere.

We expect Frankfurt to play at the top of their game and the fans to push their team. We have to be ready. We’ll have a short training session today, then the trip to Frankfurt. Tomorrow we have to prove it.”

The 50-year-old also heaped praises on the club’s latest signing Bryan Zaragoza, appreciating his athleticism and skillfulness.

We have signed a very young and very hungry player.

“He’s a good dribbler, very strong in 1v1 situations. Bryan also has a lot of self-confidence and a lot of hunger. We are happy that he’s joining us,” Thomas Tuchel said.
