Due to a sprained right ankle, Tyler Herro will be out for at least two weeks, which means the Miami Heat will be without their top scorer for the next seven games, if not longer.
Herro was wounded during Miami’s Wednesday night victory over Memphis and on Thursday, he arrived back in Miami. Dr. Harlan Selesnick, the team’s orthopaedic specialist, evaluated him, and shortly after, a Grade two sprain was diagnosed.
After the season’s first eight games, Herro, who leads Miami in scoring at a career-high 22.9 points per game, will be placed in a walking boot for ten days. He will then be reevaluated in two weeks, and a return-to-play timeline is probably not going to be decided until then.
After only attempting to make a standard basketball play, Herro will lose a substantial amount of time for the second time in 2023.
During a play on Wednesday, he attempted a floater in the lane, which is one of his go-to shooters, and fell on Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr.’s foot, resulting in an ankle sprain. Additionally, late in the first half of Game 1 of Miami’s first-round playoff series against Milwaukee in April, Herro broke his hand diving for a lost ball.
Herro was unable to participate in Miami’s run to the NBA Finals last season due to a fractured hand. This time, Herro’s ankle injury will require at least seven games to recover; if not, it will require ten.
Before Wednesday, Herro was averaging 25.3 points; but, after scoring six points in just eight minutes against the Grizzlies, his average dropped.
Miami’s next eight games are all away from home, beginning on Saturday when they travel to Atlanta.
