Two-time winner, Korea DPR demolished Costa Rica to advance to the knockout phase of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The Asian champions won 9-0 in Cali, outclassing the South Americans with an outstanding attacking style. The game highlighted half a dozen  of different scorers and a trio of Jon Ryong-jong assists.

The game started brightly as Korea DPR were two goals up in the first ten minutes. They went on to score five in the first half and the remaining four in the second.

Sarah Benavides own-goal opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Chae Un-Yong scored the second two minutes later.

Choe Il-Son and Kim Song-Gyong scored braces as Park Mi-Ryong, Jong Kum and Choa Kang-Ryon scored one apiece to complete the haul.

Korea DPR continued their outstanding record of having progressed from the group stage at every edition of the tournament.

They are the third team to score nine goals in the tournament, after Brazil and Canada, both against Fiji.

The North Koreans are hoping to add to the two titles they won at Russia 2006 and Papua New Guinea 2016.

Argentina produced an impressive performance to draw Netherlands in the second game of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

Central defender Serena Rodriguez scored two second-half goals to complete impressive Argentina comeback.

The Dutch women were 3-1 up at the end of the first half, but slipped as the Argentine fought hard to tie the game.

Veerle Buurman scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute, with a composed finish. A powerful strike from Bo van Egmond had the Dutch two goals ahead in the 38th minute.

Argentina reduced the deficit when Sofia Dominguez sent an effort from tight angle into the back of the net.

Four minutes later, the Dutch restored their two-goal lead. A quickly taken free-kick was tucked home by Robine Lacroix to send the European nation to the break with a 3-1 advantage.

Argentina started the comeback early in the second half, with Serena Rodriguez as the heroine.

The central defender pulling one back three minutes after the restart as she swept home a deflected shot from the top of the six yard box. She then sent Kishi Nunez’s delicious deep cross into the net to cap the impressive comeback.

However, the draw keeps both nations’ progression hopes alive. Argentina need to win Costa Rica while Netherlands fight for a point against the North Koreans to ensure top-two finish.
