Manchester City defeated resolute Inter Milan 1-0 to secure their long-awaited UEFA Champions League trophy, whilst also completing their treble run for the 2022/2023 season.

The opening minutes of the encounter were quite balanced, as both teams kept each other in check. However, City produced the first real opportunity of the game when Erling Haaland released a shot that was unfortunately kept out by Andre Onana.

The lines then became a little bit blurry for Pep Guardiola’s side when Kevin De Bruyne was forced off injured in the 36th minute, as the remainder of the first half wore on with Inter matching City’s energy before they suffered a blow of their own when Edin Džeko got subbed off in the 57th minute due to injury.

The deadlock was however broken in the 68th minute when Akanji slipped the ball to Silva, whose cutback deflected off Francesco Acerbi to Rodri, and the Spaniard calmly fired in his second-ever UCL goal after getting his first against Bayern Munich.

Inter Milan’s immediate response almost resulted in an equaliser, but Dimarco’s first attempt hit the crossbar, before his follow-up bounced off Romelu Lukaku’s feet, and out of the field.

With an impressive save from Ederson denying Robin Gosens’ header, Manchester City held on to secure a historic treble, joining the ranks of the six English clubs to lift the most coveted trophy in club football.
