Harry Kane scored two goals as Bayern Munich claimed one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals with win over Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern defeated Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of the UCL last-16 tie, earning a comfortable advantage over their rival.
The Bundesliga leaders went ahead inside nine minutes with Kane heading home Michael Olise’s right-wing cross.
The Bavarians the added two more goals on the second half to seal the victory over Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen.
A goalkeeping error from Leverkusen’s goalkeeper, Matej Kovar gifted Bayern the second goal in the 54th minute. The goalkeeper dropped Joshua Kimmich’s cross, allowing Jamal Musiala to tap home early in the second half.
All hopes drowned for Alonso’s side as they were reduced to 10 men. Nordi Mukiele received his second yellow card after fouling Kingsley Coman.
Few minutes later, Bayern added the third from the penalty spot to cement the victory. Following VAR review, Michael Oliver pointed to the spot, after concluding that Kane was held back by Edmond Tapsoba. The England captain then finished coolly from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern will now head into next week’s return leg with a huge advantage over Alonso’s Leverkusen.
The winner of this tie will then face Feyenoord or Inter in the quarter finals.
