Manchester City and Inter Milan played a goalless draw in the opening game of the 2024 UEFA Champions League campaign.

A clash between the champions of England and Italy, and a repeat of the 2023 final, ended in stalement, as both teams could not find the net.

Inter were impressive on the attack but unlucky not to win, as Man City were rather silent. Inter were excellent in keeping Erling Haaland, who bagged nine goals from four Premier League matches, was kept at bay.

Rodri returned to the starting team, after returning from injury but could not inspire his team like he did in the 2023 final. He was lucky not to cost City as a mistake from him gave Inter a chance but Carlos Augusto blazed it high and wide.

Inter Milan had the best chances of the night but Ederson was crucial to rescue City from Augusto’s attempt while Henrik Mkhitaryan shot another wide.

City also had few chances with Haaland heading straight at keeper Yann Sommer, Savinho firing wildly across goal, and Kevin De Bruyne finding the side-netting from an angle.

Sommer also made excellent saves to stop De Bruyne and Gvardiol from getting City ahead. The game ended with both teams sharing the points.

Paris Saint-Germain managed to claim all points as Paulo Gazzaniga last minutes howler gave them the victory over Girona.

Girona made their Champions League debut on Wednesday, but were unlucky to end it without a point. Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga late own goal marked their debut on a losing note, giving PSG the victory.

PSG dominated the first half, with Girona unable to muster a single shot in the opening 45 minutes. However, they displayed a strong defending performance to deny the French champions from taking the lead.

They kept pushing for the opener as the second half started but were denied again by the Catalans excellent defending. Ladislav Krejci produced a last-ditch challenge to stop Ousmane Dembele from scoring.

Gazzaniga also made several big saves, but he went from hero to villain in the dying stages. The Argentine gifted PSG the win as he allowed Nuno Mendes’s low cross from the left to slip under his body.

The debutants will return to La Liga action this weekend before playing their next UCL fixture at home to Feyenoord.
