UCL: Politano Confident of Napoli’s Chances in the Round of 16

Amidst Napoli’s progression into the next stage of the UEFA Champions League, the club’s forward Matteo Politano, has expressed his delight and confidence in his side’s abilities to scale past the next hurdle.

The Partenopei defeated Braga 2-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium yesterday, courtesy of a Serdar Saatcı own goal and a strike from the recently crowned African best player of the year— Victor Osimhen, to secure the second spot behind Real Madrid in Group C.

“We really wanted to secure our place in the next round and get back to winning ways,” Politano said.

The Italian added: “Today’s match was the last of our tough set of fixtures. Unfortunately, not all of them went well, but I don’t think we’ve always got what we’ve deserved with our performances.

“However, we’re happy with how things went this evening. It was crucial for us to reach the last 16 of the Champions League and we’re confident moving forward.

“We’ve got another big game against Cagliari in three days, before heading to Rome for a huge match against a direct rival. There’s still a lot to play for this season – we need to keep on working hard.”

Next up for Walter Mazzarri’s side will be their round 16 Seria A game of the season against Cagliari on Saturday, as they’ll be looking to improve their sixth position standing on the log.
