Inter Milan earned a 2-0 victory over Feyenoord in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Goals from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez gave Simeone Inzaghi’s side the first leg triumph.

The Italian giants took the lead seven minutes before the break, courtesy of Thuram’s strike. The Frenchman struck their opener as he stabbed home Nicolo Barella’s looping ball into the box from close range.

Inter almost got the second with seconds remaining in the first interval, only to be be denied by Timon Wellenreuther. The Feyenoord goalkeeper tipped away Kristjan Asllani’s free-kick from 25 yards.

However, Inzaghi’s boys doubled their lead five minutes after the interval. Club captain, Martinez fired high into the roof of the net from Piotr Zielinski’s lay-off, to make it 2-0.

Zielinski had a chance to make it three but lost from the penalty spot. The Polish midfielder had his penalty saved by Wellenreuther, after Thuram was fouled in the box by Jeyland Mitchell.
