Germany had a turnaround as they triumphed over Italy, in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final.

Joshua Kimmich created both goals as Tim Kleindienst and Leon Goretzka helped Germany come from behind to beat Italy 2-1 at San Siro.

The Italians scored first as they got an early 9th minute goal in front of home fans, after Sandro Tonali swept home from Matteo Politano’s diverted cutback.

Germany almost responded early only for Goretzka’s header to go over the bar, following Kimmich’s cross.

The hosts went on taking the first half lead, but ended up falling in the second interval to the Germans, conceding two goals.

The visitors got back into the game as substitute Kleindienst got the leveller. Four minutes into the contest, the defender scored with a header from Kimmich’s cross to make it 1-1.

Joshua Kimmich then delivered a similar centre for Goretzka but the midfielder could only nod wide in the 69th minute. The Bayern midfielder finally found the net, seven minutes later, flicking in Kimmich’s corner to put Germany one foot into the semis.

Germany goalkeeper made strong stops from Tonali, Moise Kean and Raspadori. He had five saves in the game, compared to Donnarumma’s two.

Italy will face a tough test when they travel to Germany for the second leg on Sunday.
