Manchester United ‘s poor form continued with a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League this afternoon. Despite aiming for a fourth consecutive win, United struggled in the first half, missing several chances to score.
After 64 minutes, Jean-Philippe Mateta capitalized on a rebound from the crossbar to put Palace ahead. United tried to find an equalizer but lacked creativity. Mateta went ahead to secure a late second goal pushing United to their seventh home league loss this season, totaling 11 defeats overall. Palace moved above United to 12th place.
United manager Ruben Amorim expressed disappointment in the result. He noted that the performance was slightly better but acknowledged the frustration of the fans during a tough season. Amorim pledged to prepare for the next game.
Despite winning against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League, Amorim has not achieved back-to-back league wins since his appointment. The last United manager to wait this long was Tommy Docherty in 1972-73.
Palace, strong in away form with four wins in five games, created more chances initially. They continued to pressure, with Mateta stopped by a great save from André Onana before halftime.
After failing to score in the first half for the 18th time this season, United tried harder after the break. Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson finally made saves against Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte. However, Mateta’s close-range goal, after a header hit the crossbar, reflected Palace’s better play.
United’s attacks did not produce results, and Mateta’s late goal in the 89th minute celebrated by the away supporters sealed the match. Lisandro Martínez had to be stretchered off after suffering a serious knee injury in the second half.
