Day two of the United cup in Perth, Australia saw China, Poland, and Germany defeating their opponents to making winning start to their campaign on Saturday.

Hubert Hurkacz defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3 in two hours and twenty-four minutes, to give his country Poland, an unstoppable 2-0 lead against Brazil on Saturday night in Perth.

Before that, World No. 1 Swiatek showed her class and past World No. 11 Haddad Maia to begin her 2024 season on a winning start.

Iga Swiatek defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 6-2 to give Poland a 1-0 lead. After winning their singles matches, Swiatek and Hurkacz came back to the court to defeat Haddad Maia and Marcelo Melo 6-4, 6-3 in the mixed doubles match, ensuring a 3-0 clean sweep for Poland in Group A.

The winner of Monday’s match between Spain and Poland will move on to the quarterfinals. Brazil’s record in Group A is 0–2, as they were defeated by Spain in their opening match on Friday.

On the first day of action on Ken Rosewall Arena, Germany defeated Italy behind the leadership of Alexander Zverev, who began his 2024 campaign in spectacular fashion on Saturday with two wins at the United Cup in Sydney.

“We’re both extremely happy, the whole team is extremely happy,” Zverev said after the mixed win. “Angie played great in mixed and her singles was a high level in her first match back.”

Later in the evening, Zverev broke the tie with a commanding 6-7(5) 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sonego. Italy had led 1-0 thanks to Jasmine Paolini, who overcame a set of cramps to overcome Kerber 6-4, 7-5 in the former World No. 1’s homecoming match from maternity leave.

With an incredible 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 triumph over Vondrousova, Qinwen Zheng put the finishing touches on China’s victory over the Czech Republic.

ZZZ had earlier rallied from a set down to win the United Cup for Team China, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
