Juventus sign Chelsea defender, Renato Viega on loan until end of the season as young star bids to impress in Serie A and earn starting spot. He hopes for more game time after just one Premier League start with Chelsea this season.
Juventus’ backline has faced issues due to injuries to centre-back Bremer and left-back Juan Cabal. Danilo’s departure has also impacted the team. Veiga will look to seize this chance with Juventus before returning to Chelsea in the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus will pay a loan fee of €3.8m (£3.1m). There are additional costs of €1.5m (£1.2m) in add-ons and €200k (£168k) in extra expenses. No buy option is included in the transfer.
A club statement read: “Juventus are delighted to welcome Portuguese defender Renato Veiga. He will join the Club on loan from Chelsea until the end of the 2024/25 season.
“A versatile and physical player. He can play as a midfielder but has played both left-back and as a central defender in England in recent months. Veiga is gifted with great athleticism, making him a threat on set pieces and in aerial duels.
“Born and bred at Sporting CP, the 21-year-old rose through the capital club’s youth ranks. He made it all the way up to the senior squad before going on to play in the Bundesliga at Augsburg in the 2022/23 season.
“After a year in Germany, a move to Basel followed. where he established himself as a key component of the Swiss club and attracted the attention of Premier League side Chelsea.”
“Bought by the Blues last summer, Veiga made a total of 18 appearances in the first half of the season, contributing two goals and one assist, all of which came in the Conference League.
“Now, however, a new chapter in Juventus colours begins, for a player who will guarantee new alternatives and options for the Juve technical staff in the coming months.
Welcome to Juventus, Renato!”
Veiga is eager for his debut with Juventus. The team will play Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by a match against Empoli in Serie A on Saturday
