UEFA has slapped Aston Villa with a €60,000 (£50,000) fine for failure to submit financial accounts on time, despite meeting the required financial target for 2023/24 season.

However, this did not stop the club from achieving the necessitated financial objectives for the season under review. The fine, as covered by BBC, comes from UEFA’s financial regulations, which instructs that clubs are to provide timely financial reports.

The fine was set by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body. Williams used European legal limits regarding finance control. Although the club satisfied the financial requirements set by the Federation, the late submission of accounts resulted to the penalty.

This fine is not only reserved for Aston Villa. Their French counterparts Olympique Marseille were slapped with a €20,000 (£17,000) fine due to late submission of proper documentation. Tougher sanctions were imposed on the Italian club AS Roma, who failed the reach the targets imposed and received a fine of €2m (£1.7m).

Aston Villa might have had a financial bump but they are getting ready for competition this season in the Champions league. Aston Villa has been on a strong upward spiral since the arrival of Emery. They finished among the top four last season of the Premier League table, beating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

There are bound strong European competition in the Champions league too with matches at home against teams like Bayern Munich, Juventus, Celtic, with away matches against RB Leipzig, AS Monaco and Club Brugge.

The new Champions League format includes a reworked “League phase” with 36 teams. Each team competes in eight matches—four at home and four away—against different opponents. Despite Villa’s financial penalty, the club continues to concentrate on their hopeful season in both the Premier League and European tournaments.
