Aston Villa overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Everton 3-2 at Villa Park thanks to Ollie Watkins brace and a miraculous strike from Jhon Duran. The first half of play was dominated by the home team, but it was Everton who shocked everyone. They literally took the lead against the flow of play.

Dwight McNeil hauled down former Toffee Amadou Onana, raced towards the smaller box, and sent a shot past Emiliano Martinez from the edge of the box. Sean Dyche’s side, who lost all three of their opening Premier League games, then doubled their advantage. All before 30 minutes when Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home McNeil’s set-piece from the edge of the six-yard box.

The visitors’ two-goal cushion did not last long. Though Watkins ended his goal drought. He netted his first goal of the season on his 150th Premier League appearance.

Everton had a golden chance to extend their lead and restore their two-goal cusion when Calvert-Lewin was unleashed one-on-one. But he hesitated in front of goal while Ezri Konsa charged back to poke the ball away from danger.

And the away side would quickly live to regret the missed opportunity, as Villa pulled forth just five minutes later. Youri Tielemans clipped a cross into the box for Watkins and he excellently poke beyond Jordan Pickford to put the hosts ahead with his second goal of the match.

Finally, and in spectacular manner, Villa completed the comeback via replacement Duran. He took one touch to get the ball off his foot and then struck a brilliant shot from thirty yards out into the top left corner.

Everton had a quick opportunity to equalize when Calvert-Lewin’s effort smacked against the underside of the bar, but the home team held on which earned them a crucial three points.
